Elected this Sunday, Emmanuel Grégoire has brought the sensitive issue of the Parc des Princes back to the forefront with a clear stance: considering a sale to guarantee PSG’s presence in Paris.
The club and its historic stadium are already among the new mayor’s top priorities. Barely in office, Emmanuel Grégoire wants to reopen discussions surrounding the Parc des Princes, a central topic of his municipal campaign.
A new approach to secure PSG’s future in Paris
Unlike Anne Hidalgo, who was firmly opposed to any sale, he adopts a more flexible position. Two options will be put forward: a long-term lease, an option already rejected by the club, or a sale of the stadium under specific conditions.
“I know this issue inside out and personally, I am in favor of a sale for one simple reason: if that is the condition for PSG to stay, then we must accept it,” he stated. At the same time, he envisions a large-scale project called “Porte des Princes,” combining stadium modernization with a broader redevelopment of its surroundings.
Emmanuel Grégoire is laying the groundwork for his vision to appeal to PSG. “First, a sporting vision around Porte de Saint-Cloud and Porte d’Auteuil: the ‘Porte des Princes’. I leave the stadium in the hands of the club (…) to create a large green forecourt (…) with leisure activities, a museum, a Hall of Fame…,” he explained, aiming to “build a major project hand in hand with the club.”
This shift in approach could ease tensions between the city and PSG. However, the club is already moving forward with an alternative involving a new stadium, particularly in Massy or Poissy. The standoff is therefore far from over: more than ever, the future of the Parc des Princes will depend on PSG’s decision.
