Tensions are escalating between Lens and Paris Saint-Germain. The northern club has firmly رفضed to postpone their Ligue 1 Matchday 29 clash, a request made by PSG to better manage its European schedule against Liverpool.
The Sang et Or have clearly rejected the idea of rescheduling the April 11 fixture. While they were not entirely opposed to a change in theory, the solution proposed by the French Professional Football League does not align with their interests. In an official statement, Lens reminded that the date had been set as early as March 6 and that they had expressed opposition to any changes from the outset, now denouncing increasing pressure and public statements on the matter.
Concerns Over Fairness and Competitive Balance
The club from Artois primarily highlights an issue of fairness. It believes Ligue 1 is becoming an “adjustment variable” to benefit clubs competing in European tournaments. A postponement would lead to what they consider an unbalanced schedule, with two weeks without playing followed by a series of matches every three days, a rhythm deemed difficult to sustain.
On the other side, PSG justifies its request due to its double confrontation with Liverpool in the Champions League, with the first leg on April 8 and the return leg on April 14. The objective is clear: gain more rest to optimize qualification chances. However, Lens, directly competing for the title, refuses to give in.
Pierre Sage has taken a firm stance on the issue, stating that his team should not have to “deal with such situations.” Beyond the principle, postponing the match would also complicate Lens’ end-of-season schedule, particularly with a challenging trip to Lyon ahead. The final decision now lies with the league authorities, expected in the coming days.
