Freshly elected, Emmanuel Grégoire is determined to move past years of tension with Paris Saint-Germain. A quick exchange with club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has revived discussions that had long been stalled.
Last Sunday, Emmanuel Grégoire officially became mayor of Paris. His top priorities—security, housing, traffic congestion? Not quite. His immediate focus is PSG. Dialogue resumed right away, as Nasser Al-Khelaïfi reached out to the new mayor the day after the election.
Renewed Dialogue and Stadium Uncertainty
This symbolic gesture follows years of strained relations under former mayor Anne Hidalgo. Emmanuel Grégoire is signaling a clear intention to ease tensions and foster collaboration. He is even considering organizing a ceremony at City Hall to celebrate PSG’s UEFA Champions League title and highlight the Parisian team.
But beyond the symbolism, one major issue dominates: the future of the Parc des Princes. The mayor wants to speed things up and has announced decisive talks by mid-April during a special Paris Council meeting, which has long opposed selling the stadium to the Qatar-owned club.
The possibility of selling the stadium is now clearly back on the table. After months of deadlock, PSG and the City of Paris finally seem ready to move forward together. Still, nothing has been finalized. The club continues to emphasize that its priority remains a potential move to Poissy or Massy, where it could build a larger stadium.
