FC Barcelona could be forced to return to Montjuïc at the start of the 2026–2027 season due to ongoing construction work at Camp Nou. Barely back, already having to leave again? According to Mundo Deportivo, the installation of the stadium’s roof will require Barça to temporarily play away from their home ground during the first months of the season.
In this context, a return to the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc is gaining momentum, while the option of expanding the Johan Cruyff Stadium appears increasingly unlikely.
A temporary return driven by practical considerations
The club’s management reportedly favors this solution for both economic and logistical reasons. With a capacity of around 50,000 seats, the Montjuïc stadium would generate significantly higher ticket revenue and allow more fans to attend matches.
A pragmatic choice that could quickly become the default option, at least until a long-awaited full return to a renovated Camp Nou—after several months of delay.
