The dispute between Olympique Lyonnais and Botafogo is escalating rapidly. The Brazilian club has officially initiated legal proceedings to recover more than €125 million, in a conflict tied to the finances of the Eagle Football group.
In a strongly worded statement, Botafogo accuses Lyon of failing to honor its commitments. The club claims it injected over €125 million in the form of loans, with the expectation of structured repayment… which allegedly never happened.
Legal battle intensifies between Lyon and Botafogo
According to Botafogo, the breakdown of agreements stems from a unilateral decision by Lyon’s new management, amid internal tensions within the group led by John Textor.
The Brazilian club has no intention of backing down. It has announced it will use all available legal means to recover the owed sums, also mentioning an additional €12 million debt linked to RWDM Bruxelles.
This aggressive move could have serious consequences for Lyon, already weakened behind the scenes. The standoff has now reached a critical point.
