Speaking at a press conference after France’s 3-1 victory over Northern Ireland, Didier Deschamps showed no concern whatsoever about Kylian Mbappé’s form. Despite several clear opportunities, the French forward failed to find the net in Lille.
Mbappé did not score, and some observers are beginning to raise questions. The France captain was heavily involved in attack, attempting six shots during the match, but only one was on target. However, his lack of efficiency did little to worry the national team coach just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
Deschamps Keeps Faith in Mbappé
When asked about his striker’s wastefulness in front of goal, Deschamps chose humor over concern. “I’m not worried at all. It’s true that he had several chances but lacked efficiency. He told me he was saving his goals for the United States, so that works for me,” the coach joked with a smile in front of reporters.
It was a way of taking the pressure off his star player while underlining the confidence he continues to place in him ahead of France’s World Cup opener. The only question now is whether Mbappé will keep that promise on American soil. One thing is certain: goals will be expected.
