José Mourinho has barely returned to Real Madrid, and he is already preparing for a major squad overhaul. According to several Spanish media outlets, the Portuguese manager has drawn up a list of players he does not intend to rely on next season.
It is now official. Benfica have confirmed José Mourinho’s departure, with the Portuguese coach signing a three-year deal at Real Madrid. Before focusing on new arrivals — even though Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konaté have reportedly joined — the Special One is prioritizing trimming down the squad.
Mourinho’s Major Squad Shake-Up
Among the six players reportedly affected, two names stand out: Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo. Both have long been viewed as key figures in Madrid’s project, but they are no longer considered untouchable under Mourinho’s plans. The French midfielder, once seen as a cornerstone of the club’s future, could now see his role significantly reduced.
Rodrygo’s future also appears uncertain despite his importance to the team in recent seasons. Meanwhile, several other players are reportedly on Mourinho’s list. Franco Mastantuono could be sent out on loan, while Fran Garcia, Raul Asensio, and Dani Ceballos have all been made available for transfer.
The message from Mourinho is clear: he wants to build his own version of Real Madrid. To achieve that goal, even some of the club’s most recognizable names may no longer be guaranteed a place at the Santiago Bernabéu.
