It is now only a matter of hours. Pierre Sage is set to leave RC Lens and join Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
After a successful season in northern France, marked by a Coupe de France triumph and a second-place finish in Ligue 1, French coach Pierre Sage has chosen to take on a new challenge in England. He is expected to replace Oliver Glasner on the Crystal Palace bench.
A three-year deal with Crystal Palace
According to several sources, an agreement has been reached on a three-year contract running until 2029. Named Ligue 1’s best coach at the latest UNFP Awards, Sage is expected to be officially announced by the London club very soon.
This move also comes with a major pay rise. The French coach is expected to earn nearly four times more than he did at Lens.
RC Lens will not leave empty-handed, however. Crystal Palace are set to pay compensation estimated at €3 million, potentially rising to €5 million with bonuses. A nice cheque for the Sang et Or, even if this departure was clearly not part of the plan.
