Marc Cucurella has officially turned the page on his Barcelona past. After completing a €60 million move to Real Madrid this summer, the Spanish left-back has made it clear that he has no doubts about a decision that is already causing controversy among Barça supporters.
Having come through Barcelona’s famous academy, Cucurella insists he has no regrets about leaving Chelsea to join Los Blancos. At 27, the Spain international believes he has taken advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Cucurella Defends His Real Madrid Choice
“For me and my family, it was an opportunity we simply could not refuse,” he told El Mundo. “When you are a child, you dream of playing for the biggest clubs, and Real Madrid is one of them.”
Those comments are likely to be viewed as a betrayal by some Barcelona fans. After spending years at La Masia before leaving the club without ever becoming a regular first-team player, Cucurella is now set to represent Barça’s greatest rival.
The defender is fully embracing his decision and is now focused on writing a new chapter in his career under José Mourinho at Real Madrid.
