The decision triggered a wave of criticism, with many viewers and commentators arguing that the subtitles were unnecessary and could be seen as stigmatizing Andalusian speakers. Asked about the issue, Ruiz responded with irony following an interview with DAZN. “If someone didn’t understand me during this interview, you can also add subtitles because of my Andalusian accent,” he joked. He then delivered a heartfelt tribute to his roots, saying: “My mother means everything to me. I am proud of who I am, where I come from, my hometown of Los Palacios, being Andalusian, and Andalusia.”
Despite his lighthearted response, the debate continues to fuel discussion across Spain.
