PSG Sign Yet Another New Goalkeeper!

PSG are continuing to reshape their goalkeeping department. While young Alessandro Longoni is set to join the Parisian club to take on the role of third-choice goalkeeper, one question inevitably came up: what will happen to Lucas Chevalier?

The answer seems clear. PSG have made their decision on Lucas Chevalier… but are still changing everything behind the scenes. According to Benjamin Quarez, a journalist for Le Parisien, the French goalkeeper is not expected to leave PSG this summer. He has not asked to go, and the capital club has no intention of pushing him towards the exit.

Longoni’s arrival therefore does not call Chevalier’s presence into question. Paris are mainly preparing for the future and reorganising their hierarchy. Renato Marin is expected to be loaned out to gain playing time, while Longoni will join the squad as third-choice goalkeeper.

Chevalier, meanwhile, is expected to start the season as number two behind Matvey Safonov. It is bound to be a frustrating situation for an ambitious goalkeeper, but not enough to trigger an immediate departure.

PSG therefore want to keep real competition between the posts. Safonov starts with a slight advantage, but Chevalier fully intends to fight to win back his place. The club still believes the former Lille goalkeeper can play an important role in its project. Unless there is a major twist, Chevalier will stay in Paris. PSG are signing Longoni, loaning out Marin, but not sacrificing their French goalkeeper. The goalkeeping battle is back on for next season.
