The France team did more than just secure qualification against Morocco. By winning 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, Les Bleus also avoided a disciplinary setback before the last four.
France will be able to play with more freedom in their semi-final. Before the match against Morocco, three French players were at risk of suspension in the event of another yellow card: Michael Olise, Manu Koné and Bradley Barcola. All three therefore had to be careful against the Atlas Lions in a high-intensity match.
Olise, Koné and Barcola No Longer at Risk
Good news for Didier Deschamps: none of the three players concerned were booked on Thursday night. France finished their quarter-final without any problematic yellow cards, allowing the coach to keep all his options available for the semi-final.
The rule now works in Les Bleus’ favor. After the quarter-finals, yellow-card counters are reset. Olise, Koné and Barcola will therefore no longer have that threat hanging over them in the next round.
France will face the winner of the clash between Spain and Belgium in the semi-final. With a full squad available from a disciplinary standpoint, Didier Deschamps can prepare for this huge match with real relief.
