Atlético Madrid have not given up on Mason Greenwood. While Fenerbahçe are pushing hard to sign the English forward from Olympique de Marseille, the Spanish club remain firmly in the race and still hope to turn the situation around.
The Mason Greenwood saga continues to shake up OM’s transfer window. After a huge season with Marseille, scoring 26 goals in all competitions in 2025-2026, the 24-year-old English winger has been moving closer to Fenerbahçe in recent days. The Turkish club are in active talks with OM, and a transfer worth around €42 million, including bonuses, has been mentioned.
Atlético See Greenwood as the Post-Griezmann Plan
But Atlético Madrid have not had their final say. According to the latest trends, the Spanish club still hold real appeal for Mason Greenwood. The forward is even said to prefer the Colchoneros, who are attracted by his profile and his ability to play across the entire attacking line.
The problem, however, lies on the financial side. Fenerbahçe are reportedly offering a higher salary than Atlético, complicating the Madrid club’s plans. Yet the Spanish directors want to make Greenwood one of the faces of their new attack, with the idea of gradually preparing for Antoine Griezmann’s succession.
For OM, the stakes are also economic. Marseille had initially hoped to recover at least €50 million for last season’s top scorer, but the final fee could be lower. And the French club will not receive the full amount, as Manchester United are due to collect 40% of the transfer thanks to a clause negotiated when Greenwood left for Marseille.
The case therefore remains open between Fenerbahçe’s financial power and Atlético’s sporting appeal. Greenwood appears to have a prestigious exit route in Spain, but the Madrid club will still need to make an effort to beat the Turkish competition.
