The Ansu Fati saga is turning into a major headache for FC Barcelona. Despite being clearly told he’s not in Hansi Flick’s plans for next season, the 22-year-old winger isn’t moving — and that’s causing a chain reaction.

AS Monaco had moved early to negotiate a loan for Fati, but talks have now stalled. While the player is reportedly open to the move, the issue is financial. Barcelona wants to offload his full salary — estimated between €13–15 million per year — while Monaco is only willing to cover a portion.

Blocking Nico Williams, Monaco deal on hold

Fati’s unresolved future is also blocking Barça’s efforts to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao. The release clause? A flat €62 million to be paid upfront — and Barcelona needs to raise funds through departures to meet that demand.

As it stands, Barcelona won’t accept paying part of Fati’s wages or lowering their expectations. A loan only works if the full salary is covered by the receiving club — a condition that’s driving away all interested parties, including Monaco.

Unless something shifts soon, both the Fati exit and the Williams arrival remain on ice.
