OM Champion’s League Star Removed from Logo, Supporters Panic

Olympique de Marseille is updating its visual identity. As expected, the club officially unveiled its new logo this Wednesday. But one detail has sent shockwaves through supporters.

OM has made its new logo official, and it’s safe to say it has sparked strong reactions in Marseille. “Our new logo modernizes our iconic emblem while respecting its history. Its geometric structure improves readability, while the ‘M’ flows freely, evoking the water, wind, and fire that define Marseille. A symbol that is both structured and dynamic, historic and bold, deeply rooted in the city and carried by its people.”

A Controversial Redesign That Sparks Debate

“More than just a redesign, this emblem embodies the very essence of Marseille: passionate, unpredictable, and constantly moving,” the club explained in a statement.

This new crest, which removes the star and the motto “Droit au but” from official communications, has not gone down well. Reactions are multiplying, notably from Souleymane Diawara, who is far from convinced—just like many supporters who noticed the disappearance of both the star and the motto.

“The star is the club’s DNA, its history. We won a Champions League, and now they want to remove it. It’s absurd. And the slogan ‘Droit au but’ is also OM. Taking it away is unacceptable. It must be present everywhere,” the former defender said on RMC.

However, it’s worth noting that on match jerseys, the badge will still retain the star and the club’s motto. A simplification for official documents, press backdrops, and the team bus—but not on the players’ chests.
