Nike in Panic Mode Over World Cup Jersey Stitching Issue

Nike is facing embarrassment: a major flaw has been confirmed on the 2026 World Cup jerseys. The brand has acknowledged the issue — an aesthetic problem, but one that is highly visible.

According to The Guardian, several national teams equipped by Nike are affected by a design defect around the shoulders. A poorly executed seam in the new “Aero-FIT” template creates a strange “pointy” or puffed effect visually.

A Visible Design Flaw Raising Concerns

The issue was first noticed during the latest international break. On players like Kylian Mbappé with the French national team, as well as with Uruguay, the jerseys create an unusual silhouette, almost rigid around the shoulders.

Nike has confirmed the flaw: “We have identified a minor issue in the shoulder area. Performance is not affected, but the visual result is not satisfactory.”

The real problem lies in timing. With only months to go before the World Cup, millions of jerseys have already been produced and distributed. A full recall or large-scale redesign is virtually impossible.

The brand is currently in talks with federations to find solutions, but a complete overhaul seems highly unlikely. In the meantime, minor adjustments are being suggested — such as steaming or washing the jersey before use — far from ideal for gear meant to represent the pinnacle of world football. The result: a growing wave of negative buzz, and a World Cup that might be played with slightly too square shoulders.
