Roberto De Zerbi still hasn’t come to terms with the Trophée des Champions lost to PSG. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, on the eve of the Champions League clash against Liverpool, the OM coach returned with emotion to the cruel final played on January 8 (2-2, 1-4 on penalties).
The trophy lost in those circumstances by OM, a match against PSG, still haunts the Italian. “In football, there are two teams. There is one that wins and the other that loses,” he said.
A painful Trophée des Champions final
“If you get to 13 seconds from the end of the match and you’re leading with a team that was completed on September 1, with six players arriving at the last minute of the transfer window, and you’re able to compete with PSG, then for me it’s not really a defeat,” he explained.
Marked by the way it unfolded, De Zerbi admitted that this episode will stay with him for a long time. “It’s really something that will remain anchored in me, something I’ll have a hard time forgetting. I’ll think about it for the rest of my days, I think,” he concluded, proof that this lost final continues to haunt him.
