Stade Rennais did try to pull off a nice move in this transfer window. In search of an attacking midfielder, the Breton club inquired about Giovani Lo Celso, currently at Real Betis.
Lo Celso nearly returned to Ligue 1. According to Foot Mercato, Rennes approached the Spanish club, which was not opposed to selling the Argentine international despite a contract running until June 2028. On the pitch, Lo Celso has remained an important player this season with 17 appearances and 2 goals in La Liga.
Negotiations Stall for Lo Celso
But the case never really took off. Talks with the player’s agent, who experienced the very highest level with PSG, quickly blocked any progress, and Rennes were unable to take this lead any further.
As a result, the Breton club will turn to another option and should soon make official the arrival of Sebastian Szymanski from Fenerbahçe, a more accessible choice after the failure of the Lo Celso pursuit.
