A former mainstay of Paris Saint-Germain, Juan Bernat offers a rare and emphatic account of Kylian Mbappé, far removed from the rumors portraying him as a dictator-like figure.

After five seasons alongside him in Paris, the Spanish full-back describes a player who runs counter to the clichés surrounding global superstars: a competitor without ego, obsessed with the collective and driven by an elite mentality.

The Perfect Timing for Madrid

For Bernat, Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid comes at the ideal moment in his career. He is mature enough to shoulder the pressure of a mythical club, yet still young enough to commit for the long term and help shape a dynasty. “I spent five years with Mbappé, and I can say he’s a kid without ego and without limits. His mindset is entirely focused on the team. He arrived at Real Madrid at the perfect age, with the right mentality, and I’m sure he’s going to leave his mark there,” Bernat said.

Bernat also spoke about PSG’s other former stars—Neymar, Messi, and Verratti. “It was a true honor, honestly. A footballer couldn’t dream of anything better, because sharing daily life with players of that caliber makes you improve. Every training session was an incredible experience. And not only because I had Messi, Mbappé, or Neymar as teammates. Being able to work with Marco Verratti, for example, was a privilege—what exceptional footballers!” he added.
