The 2025 Trophée des Champions will once again be pushed back to winter—this time due to Paris Saint-Germain’s overloaded calendar.
Initially expected to open the new season, the PSG vs OM showdown won’t happen this summer. With PSG set to compete in the Club World Cup from June 15 to July 13, the LFP has ruled out any summer date.
PSG’s schedule disrupts the start of the season
The Ligue de Football Professionnel is now exploring a winter reschedule, possibly around December 23. However, the players’ union (UNFP) has already voiced its opposition to that date.
Format and venue still up in the air
No final decision has been made regarding the format—whether it will remain a single match or expand to a Final Four. Cities like Kinshasa and Abidjan are under consideration to host the event after Doha held the 2024 edition.
If PSG win the Coupe de France this weekend, Marseille—currently second in Ligue 1—will face them for the trophy.
