Lionel Messi continues to create uncertainty about his future with the national team. In an interview with ESPN, the 38-year-old Argentine once again hinted that he is not sure he will participate in the 2026 World Cup, even as Argentina prepares to defend its title.

“I hope to be there. I would love to be there. At worst, I will be present on site. Let it wait. I will prepare seriously. I will make my decision over the months, being sincere and realistic,” he explained when asked about the necessity of booking tickets for the World Cup.
