AC Milan: Amorim Picks Up the Phone to Keep Maignan and Rabiot

Only days after taking charge of AC Milan, Ruben Amorim has launched his first charm offensive. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Portuguese coach made one very specific request to the club’s management.

Amorim is determined to keep Milan’s French stars. His first move was to ask for the phone numbers of every player in the squad. The goal is simple: personally call each member of the team, explain his project, and prevent a summer exodus.

Among the first players contacted were French internationals Adrien Rabiot and Mike Maignan. Despite being under long-term contracts, both players are reportedly questioning their futures after a disappointing season that ended without qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Rabiot, who impressed for France against Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, continues to attract interest from several clubs, including Napoli. Amorim is said to have presented him with a clear vision, making him one of the key figures in Milan’s rebuild. The former Manchester United manager reportedly sees Rabiot as the ideal fit for his two-man midfield system, a role similar to the one he plays with the French national team.

Amorim also reached out to Mike Maignan, who remains attached to Milan’s previous coaching staff. To convince the French goalkeeper to stay, the Portuguese coach reportedly spoke with complete honesty, explaining the difficulties he faced in the goalkeeping department during his time at Manchester United and emphasizing his desire to build around a world-class goalkeeper. Despite missing out on the Champions League and settling for Europa League football, AC Milan has no intention of losing its French stars, and Amorim appears ready to make as many calls as necessary to avoid a turbulent summer at San Siro.
