The French national team is expected to look slightly different for its second match of the 2026 World Cup against Iraq on Monday night. After an impressive 3-1 victory over Senegal, Didier Deschamps is preparing to make a few adjustments to his starting eleven.
According to L’Équipe, three changes are expected compared to the lineup used in the opening match. Lucas Digne is set to replace Theo Hernandez at left-back, while Manu Koné is tipped to start in midfield instead of Aurélien Tchouaméni.
France Set to Rotate Against Iraq
The third change would come in attack. Bradley Barcola is expected to start on the left wing ahead of Désiré Doué. The decision would reward the Paris Saint-Germain forward for his impactful substitute appearance against Senegal, which included a late goal.
Despite these adjustments, Deschamps is likely to keep the core of the team that delivered a strong opening performance. Michael Olise should continue in a central playmaking role behind Kylian Mbappé, while Ousmane Dembélé is expected to operate on the right side of the attack.
France’s probable lineup is: Maignan – Koundé, Upamecano, Saliba, Digne – Rabiot, Koné – Dembélé, Olise, Barcola – Mbappé (captain). A victory against Iraq would put Les Bleus in a very strong position to secure qualification for the Round of 16.
