Appearing on L’Équipe du Soir, Raymond Domenech did not hold back when discussing the rumors surrounding a possible transfer for Michael Olise. True to his reputation, the former France manager launched a full-scale attack on the current transfer system.
Raymond Domenech slammed his fist on the table. For the former Les Bleus coach, football has too often become reduced to a question of money. The former manager says he can no longer stand summer discussions focused on the sums spent by clubs to sign the best players.
Domenech Calls for an End to Transfer Fees
“What tires me out is transfers. We’re going to talk again about €250 million, €300 million… In football, all we talk about is money. For two or three months, people are going to talk to me about transfers,” he complained in front of the show’s pundits.
Raymond Domenech then proposed a radical solution: ending transfer fees altogether. “I am in favor of scrapping transfers. Players sign for two years, they reach the end of their contract, they go wherever they want, and it’s their salary that makes the difference,” he explained.
According to him, players should be free to choose their next destination once their contract ends, without any money being paid between clubs. Domenech also believes club executives have no interest in seeing the system disappear: “The directors don’t want it because everyone takes a cut,” he said, before questioning the inflation in fees: “€250 million, €300 million — how far are we going to go?”
