It is another major blow for John Textor. Already weakened in recent months, the American businessman has just been abruptly removed from the presidency of Botafogo, in a decision that is making waves in Brazil.
John Textor ousted: a new earthquake in Brazil! Just a few months after losing control at Olympique Lyonnais, John Textor has been removed from the presidency of Botafogo. The American businessman is therefore losing control of yet another club. This time, it was the arbitration tribunal of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation that made the ruling, ordering his immediate removal.
An immediate and decisive ruling
The decision leaves no room for doubt: “The Arbitral Tribunal, on a purely precautionary basis, orders the automatic and immediate removal of Mr. John Charles Textor from the management of SAF Botafogo.” A measure that will be reassessed after the release of a report expected on April 29, 2026.
Behind this decision are the numerous turbulences surrounding the Eagle Football group and the judicial recovery request filed by Botafogo. The arbitrators believe that Textor’s decisions could “cause irreparable harm to shareholders and the entire community of supporters.”
While awaiting further developments, Durcesio Mello, former president and close ally of Textor, has taken over control of the club. Another major setback for Textor, whose football empire appears increasingly unstable. OL was only the beginning.
