As the Spanish Supercopa approaches, the war of words is already underway between Barça and Real Madrid. During FC Barcelona’s Christmas gathering, Joan Laporta fiercely attacked his Madrid rival, whom he accuses of trying to destabilize the Catalan club through its TV channel and the Negreira case.

For the blaugrana president, Real Madrid is simply suffering from “acute barcelonitis.” Laporta did not mince his words in front of the players and staff: “They show cynicism and excessive arrogance; they own an infamous television channel from which they spread lies and constantly poison the atmosphere.”

In an interview with TVE, the Catalan leader insisted: “In Madrid, you feel power; at Barça, freedom. They are afflicted by a true obsession with Barcelona.” Regarding the Negreira case, he maintains that “no one has proven that we bribed referees, because it never happened.”

This stance is the opposite of Florentino Pérez’s. The Real Madrid president has described the Negreira case as “the most serious problem facing football today,” questioning the millions paid for refereeing reports “that were never even consulted.” Tensions are at their peak ahead of the next Clásico.
