Appointed head coach of Botafogo last July, Davide Ancelotti has already brought his stint to an end. The Brazilian club officially announced on Wednesday the departure of Carlo Ancelotti’s son, for whom this was his very first experience as a head coach.
Crowned Brazilian champion and Copa Libertadores winner last season, Botafogo had hoped to build on that success over the long term. However, the 2025 campaign ended with a disappointing sixth-place finish in the league, not enough to convince the club’s leadership to maintain their confidence in the young Italian coach.
Ancelotti after Ancelotti
In a statement, the club confirmed a clean break: Davide Ancelotti is leaving his position, along with his staff, which included fitness coach Luca Guerra and assistants Luis Tevenet and Andrew Mangan. Botafogo thanked the Italian for his professionalism and announced that a new technical committee will be unveiled soon.
After just six months, the experiment has come to an abrupt end. Davide Ancelotti will now have to bounce back, but his name is already circulating. According to Diario AS, he is among the profiles being considered in the event of Xabi Alonso’s departure, proof that his reputation remains intact despite this brief setback in Brazil.
However, it would be a real gamble for Real Madrid, as Davide Ancelotti has never coached at the highest level in Europe.
