Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois claps back at critics of the Club World Cup, calling out football snobs and social media skeptics.
After helping Real Madrid edge past Juventus 1–0 in the round of 16, Thibaut Courtois didn’t mince his words when asked about criticism surrounding the Club World Cup. The Belgian shot-stopper made it clear: the competition deserves more respect.
“Those who actually understand football know the level is there. If you listen to four random people on Twitter, you’re wrong. Brazilian teams are strong, and Al Hilal is a great side too,” said Courtois.
Elite quarterfinals ahead
With five European giants (PSG, Real, Bayern, Chelsea, Dortmund), two South American powerhouses (Palmeiras, Fluminense), and Asian contender Al Hilal in the quarterfinals, Courtois believes the tournament’s level is on par with major international events.
Message received: for Courtois, this isn’t a glorified preseason—it’s serious business.
