Tensions are back. After Botafogo’s shocking 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, club owner John Textor took a not-so-subtle dig at PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
Just weeks ago, the two had appeared to bury the hatchet following a fiery Ligue 1 meeting where Al-Khelaïfi had reportedly branded Textor a “hostile cowboy.” But after the upset in Pasadena, the American businessman leaned fully into the nickname.
The cowboy strikes again
Following the win, Botafogo posted a photo of Textor wearing a cowboy hat, captioned with a jab: “THE AMERICAN DREAM! WE GUESS THE COWBOY WON…”
It was a playful, pointed response to past criticisms—and a victory lap after knocking off the Champions League winners.
For Botafogo, it’s a night to remember. For Al-Khelaïfi and PSG, it’s back to pressure and hard questions.
