Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he’s ready to move some 2026 World Cup matches if safety isn’t guaranteed in certain host cities. He specifically pointed out that several cities run by Democratic officials may not be safe enough for such a major event.

In a conversation with reporters, Trump claimed safety would be ‘ensured for the World Cup.’ However, he cautioned that if any city is deemed ‘dangerous,’ the matches could be shifted to other locations. Chicago was mentioned as a risky city, even though it isn’t one of the tournament’s host cities.

Trump’s Safety Concerns for World Cup 2026

Despite Trump’s concerns, several Democratic strongholds will host games, including Los Angeles (8 matches), Seattle, and San Francisco (6 each). Trump has placed the World Cup under the direct oversight of the White House, positioning himself as the event’s security guarantor, with FIFA’s support.

As the tournament draws nearer, the focus remains on balancing safety and the successful execution of one of the largest sporting events in the world.
