Kylian Mbappé wanted to set the record straight. Asked about persistent rumors suggesting tensions with Xabi Alonso, the Real Madrid forward firmly denied any internal rift while pointing out the media’s exaggerations.
Was Xabi Alonso sacked from Real Madrid because of Kylian Mbappé? The player completely rejects that idea and instead shows support for the former Madrid coach. “No… But there are things being said that are false. Sometimes 10% is true and 90% is a lie. Our role is to accept it, but sometimes I also say things that aren’t quite right. When I have the chance to speak, I do,” he explained, aware of the impact these stories can have on public opinion.
Mbappé Addresses the Rumors Around Alonso
“I spoke to him the day the decision was made. I have a good relationship with him. We talked about life and I wanted to support him. Whether it’s fair or not, it’s not for me to say. Football is like that. The affection I have for him is for life. I have to support my new coach, Arbeloa, with the same affection I have for Xabi. That’s the life of a top-level footballer. It’s a decision by the club and we have to respect it and always defend the Real Madrid badge.”
The Frenchman also answered questions about his quick return to the squad, which some saw as a forced decision to support his coach. Once again, Mbappé dismissed those interpretations. “Do I have to comment on everything the French press says? I traveled because I always want to play every match. The club had a plan for me to be able to play the Super Cup. The coach told me to come and support the team and that was normal in such an important case. My individual situation comes after the team.” He admits the result did not follow, but insists on his mindset: being there, helping, and moving forward.
Asked again about the atmosphere in the squad and the supposed issues with Xabi Alonso, Mbappé took a broader, almost educational tone. “Sometimes journalists are wrong. Maybe, maybe. Some do a good job; sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong.” He also recalls how media narratives shape public perception. “When I was a kid, everything I heard on TV was true. I understand that people form opinions based on what they hear.” For Mbappé, the priority lies elsewhere: “Our role is to win back the public’s trust and rebuild the family that is Real Madrid.” A clear message meant to calm the debate and refocus attention on the pitch.
