Donald Trump has once again stolen the spotlight. Present at the Club World Cup final between Chelsea and PSG, the U.S. President first raised eyebrows by lingering alongside the Chelsea players during their post-match celebrations. But that was only the beginning.
According to The Daily Beast, Trump told DAZN live during the match that he had kept the original trophy from the tournament — right in the Oval Office. “They [FIFA] asked, ‘Can you hold onto this trophy for a bit?’ We placed it in the Oval Office, then I asked, ‘When are you going to take it back?’ and Gianni Infantino replied, ‘Never. You can keep it forever,’” Trump recounted, clearly amused by the story.
Trump awkwardly stays with Chelsea’s squad
FIFA president Gianni Infantino reportedly brought the trophy to the White House during a visit in March. It has remained there ever since, while a replica was handed to Chelsea following their victory.
Trump also made headlines for standing awkwardly with Chelsea’s squad during the trophy presentation. Ignoring protocol, he remained in the center of the stage smiling, staying until Reece James finally lifted the trophy. Another surreal moment that didn’t go unnoticed.
