Special guest on RMC’s show “Les Nuits du Cazarre Enchaîné”, Eden Hazard spoke about the almost yearly negotiations with PSG and his repeated refusals, despite persistent approaches from the Parisian club.
Eden Hazard could have been part of PSG’s galaxy of stars. The Paris side under QSI wanted to sign him. But the capital club faced a firm rejection from the Belgian, who chose to leave Lille in 2012 to join Chelsea, before later moving on to Real Madrid.
Why Hazard never wanted to join PSG despite strong interest
“Every year I had contact with PSG,” Eden Hazard admitted on RMC. “In my mind, it was very clear. When I left Lille, I told myself: ‘I don’t want to come back to France for any club other than Lille. If I ever return one day, it will be to play for Lille to finish my career, for example.’ For the people of Lille, for the North, I didn’t want to go and play for PSG.”
PSG still had strong arguments. “It was a great club. Nasser (Al-Khelaïfi) would come, there was a lot of money, there was always a team built to compete in the Champions League,” he recalled. But that was not enough to alter his career plan. “Things were going so well at Chelsea, and my dream after that was to go to Real, not to PSG and then to Real.” A path mapped out in advance — and a story that will now never be written any differently.
