During the Paris FC vs OM match (2–2), broadcast on beIN Sports, commentator Daniel Bravo made remarks considered sexist on air about Gaëtane Thiney, sporting director of the Paris FC women’s team. The incident occurred while the cameras showed her during the game.
While commentating, Bravo first said, “She’s not very attentive.” Journalist Christophe Josse replied, “She’s like you, Daniel, she’s giving technical explanations.” Bravo then added, “I feel like she was talking about lingerie,” prompting Josse to answer, “no, no, no.” Bravo followed up by saying, “Clothes.”
Broadcaster apologizes and immediate suspension
The next day, the channel released an apology statement, condemning the comments and calling them unacceptable. It expressed sincere regret for the remarks made on air by one of its consultants and apologized to the person concerned, subscribers, and anyone who may have been offended. The statement stressed that sexist judgments or comments have no place on its broadcasts or social media, and reaffirmed respect and equality as core values in sports coverage.
Daniel Bravo was suspended with immediate effect. The head of channels, Florent Houzot, said he personally informed Bravo of the decision, which he fully understands. According to Houzot, Bravo deeply regrets his words and contacted Gaëtane Thiney to apologize directly.
Paris FC also reacted with an official statement strongly condemning the remarks made on air about its women’s sporting director. The club described the comments as sexist and inappropriate, contrary to its core values of diversity, respect, and equality, and reaffirmed its full support for Gaëtane Thiney and for all women who contribute to the growth and visibility of football every day.
