A nightmare evening for OM, and Roberto De Zerbi did not look for excuses. After the humiliating elimination in Bruges (0-3), the Italian coach delivered a rare confession: “We have to ask for forgiveness.” Marseille completely missed the start of the match, conceded two goals too quickly, and never managed to recover.

“We started the match very badly, we knew they would come out very strong, but we conceded two goals. After that, we attacked, but it didn’t work. Even in the second half, we knew Forbs’ speed was superior to Medina’s. And we didn’t manage to score, neither in the first half nor in the second. We could have been more attentive without exposing ourselves so much. We have to ask for forgiveness because this is a very bad day,” said RDZ.

Marseille Fall Short of Champions League Standards

Even if he reminds everyone that the elimination is not decided by a single match, the verdict is harsh: OM were not up to the task. “Did we deserve to go through with nine points? In this match, no. But there were eight matches in total, you also have to look at the others. We played very badly and it’s a shame,” the Italian sighed.
