MLS: Messi and Alba suspended for skipping the All-Star Game… and the Pulga isn’t happy about it.
Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba will miss Inter Miami’s clash against Cincinnati this Saturday. The two stars have been suspended by the MLS after refusing to take part in the league’s All-Star Game — a staple of North American sports culture. Officially, both cited a need for rest. But the league didn’t budge: the rule is clear — players who skip the event without prior approval are banned from playing their next club match.
“Lionel Messi is very upset”
The sanction hasn’t gone down well. Inter Miami’s majority owner, Jorge Mas, expressed his disappointment and warned of potential consequences. “Lionel Messi is very upset. I hope this doesn’t have a long-term impact,” he said.
Mas criticized the league for suspending players over an exhibition game, calling for a potential rule change. In the meantime, the MLS finds itself at the center of a controversy — with its biggest global star.
