More than three years after his last appearance for the French national team, Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema, 37, remains open to the possibility of a comeback. Speculation around Zinedine Zidane potentially becoming the head coach of France next summer has caught his attention.
In an interview, Benzema expressed his admiration for Zidane, stating, “I believe he has everything to be a great coach. He proved it at Real Madrid. Zizou remains number one.” While he acknowledges that a return to the national team feels distant, he admits, “You never know. I’m focusing on what I have right now.”
Benzema also revealed intentions to extend his career by two more years, suggesting that this decision could impact his future at the club level. His contract with Al-Ittihad expires next June, and he is surrounded by speculation about potential extensions, returns to Europe, or retirement.
Benzema’s Future and Potential Return to National Team
While discussing his future, Benzema stated, “I can’t say yet if I will stay or leave; it depends on many factors. I’ll be 38 in December, but I still see myself playing for two more years.” He has received offers from Europe but emphasizes his comfort in his current position, saying, “I feel good here and receive a lot of affection.”
Despite the uncertainties, Benzema is clear about his intentions: he will not be stepping back from football. “I will not stop playing or competing,” he affirmed, as he currently boasts five goals in nine matches across all competitions this season.
