France national team: Ibrahima Konaté wants to give Didier Deschamps a selection headache. With just a few weeks to go before the World Cup, the hierarchy in central defense is still not fully settled—for the Liverpool player.
As the World Cup approaches, every international break is crucial to secure a spot. Konaté understands this well. Starting in France’s 2-1 victory over Brazil, the center-back strengthened his case in a highly competitive battle with Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba.
Strong competition in France’s defense
Solid and composed, the Liverpool defender enjoyed this prestigious win: “It’s a very beautiful victory, and we did it in style. We produced very good football, and winning with ten men against one of the best nations is impressive. We’re putting ourselves in World Cup conditions, and it’s a great start.”
After going through a more difficult period, Konaté is now clear about his ambitions: “I’m very happy. I went through a tough phase, but now I’m here to earn points and give the coach a headache. That’s what I did today. I need to keep going like this.”
