A new chapter in the fallout between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain. According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, a formal judicial investigation has been opened following a complaint filed by the French striker on May 16, accusing his former club of moral harassment.
Judges appointed, investigation underway
Two investigating judges have been assigned to the case. In his complaint, Mbappé points to his exclusion from the first team during the summer of 2023, when he was sent to the infamous PSG “loft” — a separate group reserved for unwanted players. He also alleges a “coercive attempt” to force him into signing a new contract.
The Brigade for the Repression of Personal Crime (BRDP) is now involved. The unit is also investigating a similar case filed by Kheira Hamraoui, who accused PSG of sidelining her post-injury to push her out of the squad.
The “loft” method under legal fire
The so-called “loft” practice, used in various French clubs to isolate players, is coming under increased scrutiny. In January 2024, the Professional Footballers’ Union also filed a complaint, denouncing the practice as a means of pressuring players to comply with transfer demands.
In parallel with the criminal case, Mbappé remains in a financial dispute with PSG, with the matter expected to be settled in the coming weeks.
