A tragic incident has occurred near Lyon. According to reports from BFMTV, a player from a Ligue 2 club has been declared brain dead following a drowning accident in the Rhône River, in the municipality of Caluire-et-Cuire.
The ongoing heatwave continues to take a heavy toll across France. A series of drowning incidents has been reported in recent days, with the young footballer becoming one of the latest victims after being pulled from the river.
Investigation Opened Into the Accident
The events took place on Monday at around 5:30 p.m. The 21-year-old man, born on January 20, 2005, was swimming in the Rhône alongside two friends when the tragedy unfolded.
Emergency services were quickly alerted and rushed to the scene. All three victims were rescued from the water. Two of them were successfully resuscitated, while the footballer was transported to hospital in an extremely critical condition before being declared brain dead.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Lyon public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the accident.
