Crisis deepens at Old Trafford. Already winless in the Premier League after a draw and a defeat, Manchester United suffered one of the darkest nights in their recent history – crashing out of the League Cup to League Two side Grimsby Town after an astonishing penalty shootout (2-2, 12-11 pens).
Blundell Park erupted as the home fans roared “You’re getting sacked in the morning” at Ruben Amorim, whose future looks increasingly uncertain. Grimsby stunned United with two goals inside 30 minutes, while André Onana’s blunder on the second only fuelled criticism that his United career is effectively over.
The Red Devils looked lost, despite fielding a side with big names like Benjamin Sesko, Maguire, and Dalot.

United’s nightmare first half left them chasing shadows, while Grimsby fought with heart and determination.
It took a late equaliser from Harry Maguire – the unlikely hero again in the 89th minute – to force penalties. Even then, chaos reigned: every player stepped up to take a spot-kick, some twice, before Bryan Mbeumo, who had earlier scored, missed the decisive effort.
For Amorim, the statistics are damning: just 28 points from 29 Premier League games since taking charge, and still no win this season. United fans hoped for a revival – instead they are staring at a full-blown crisis after being dumped out by a team three divisions below.
