Michael Olise continues to rack up the numbers with the French national team. Already outstanding since the start of the 2026 World Cup, the Bleus attacking midfielder is now just one assist away from matching a legendary mark held by Pelé.
Michael Olise, already an iconic player for France? In his first major tournament with the French national team, the forward could well overtake Brazil legend Pelé.
Olise Nears Pelé’s Historic World Cup Record
The Bayern Munich player now has five assists in this World Cup. It is an exceptional total that puts him very close to Pelé’s historic record of six assists at the 1970 World Cup with Brazil.
The symbolism is huge. Pelé left his mark on that tournament, with a Brazil side that entered football legend. Seeing Olise get close to such a name shows just how extraordinary his tournament already is.
Michael Olise is putting on a show. Against Sweden, he once again confirmed his importance in France’s play. With two assists, he delighted his teammates and had a major influence on the entire French attacking setup. At this pace, the record could fall very quickly: one more perfect pass would be enough for Olise to join Pelé in World Cup history, and if he keeps going like this, the Frenchman could even do better than the King.
