Kylian Mbappé is clearly on a mission. With a brace and an outstanding performance against Sweden (3-0) on Tuesday in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, the France captain once again showed his obsession: winning another world title with Les Bleus.
At 27, the French forward continues to post extraordinary numbers for the national team: 102 caps, 62 goals, and a major influence in the biggest matches. Against Sweden, Mbappé embraced his status, guiding France to a controlled qualification for the round of 16.
Mbappé Already Focused on Paraguay
But at the final whistle, the Real Madrid player mainly wanted to stress that this victory was a collective one. “I am always aware of what I am playing for, aware of where I am, and what I have to do. But tonight, it is not just about me. The team is perfectly aware of what we have to do here,” he told M6.
Mbappé also insisted on the shift in intensity now that the knockout matches have begun. “A new competition started today and we played well. We had a slightly timid start, we could have done better, but we quickly got into the game. We could have scored earlier, but that is part of football. In the end, we managed to score and controlled the match,” the France striker said.
Already asked about the round-of-16 clash against Paraguay, scheduled for Saturday at 11 p.m., Mbappé first answered with humor before quickly becoming serious again. “Toward the dressing room and the air conditioning for now, because it is hot,” he smiled. The France captain knows the next opponent must not be underestimated: “Paraguay showed they are a team to take seriously. They beat Germany, there are no easy matches at the World Cup. We will go there to win.” The message is clear: Mbappé is enjoying the moment, but he is not losing focus. After carrying France against Sweden, he is already looking ahead, with one idea dominating his mind: bringing a third star back to France.
