Even Thiago Silva no longer hides his bitterness. The former PSG captain spoke emotionally about the broken relationship between Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, which he witnessed in its early days, at a time when everything seemed perfectly aligned.
Speaking to L’Équipe, Thiago Silva appeared deeply affected: “Neymar–Mbappé was a magnificent story… and it ended badly.” In his eyes, their partnership was an absolute no-brainer.
The rise and fall of a PSG super duo
A natural connection, on and off the pitch, born from their joint arrival in Paris in the summer of 2017. “Their relationship was incredible. They were always together, having fun, looking for each other, finding each other,” he recalls.
Thiago Silva even shares a defining anecdote: after the 2017 Champions Trophy in Morocco against Monaco, Mbappé came to see him. Despite Neymar’s imminent arrival, the young Frenchman was determined to join PSG and commit to the project. A few weeks later, both stars arrived in Paris and made all of Europe dream. But the beautiful story gradually cracked. Silva admits he does not understand what caused their rift or who is responsible, and says the end of their relationship deeply saddened him.
