In an interview with France Football, Thiago Silva came to the defense of Neymar, often criticized for his lifestyle. The former PSG captain says these accusations are unfounded and stresses the seriousness of the Santos forward. “People judge him badly. I assure you that he prepares properly and is determined to be at his best for the World Cup,” he explained, noting that Neymar has access to all modern tools to optimize his recovery.
“He has everything: the hyperbaric chamber, ice baths, a personal chef, a physio, a fitness coach…” the Brazilian added, highlighting the professional environment surrounding the player.
Context of Injury and Heavy Expectations
Thiago Silva also pointed to Neymar’s physical situation as he returns from a ruptured cruciate ligament. “After that, physical setbacks are inevitable. Look at Rodri!” he said, underlining how difficult it is to regain consistency after such a serious injury. He also mentioned Santos’ delicate situation, forced to rely heavily on its leader. “The problem is that Santos needed to survive and needed Neymar, even on one leg.”
Finally, the defender recalled that some injuries paradoxically occur when a player feels at the peak of his fitness. “You feel so good that you push the machine, and then it breaks,” he analyzed, before concluding bluntly: “Contrary to what people think, Neymar does what he needs to do.” However, Silva also warned an aging Neymar: “I told him, ‘You’re not the Neymar of ten years ago anymore. You have to preserve yourself.’”
