PSG Taken to Court by Lens Supporters

The postponement of the Ligue 1 clash between RC Lens and Paris Saint-Germain continues to spark strong reactions. Initially scheduled for April 11, the match was ultimately pushed back to May 13 following a unanimous decision by the board of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) last Thursday.

While the Lens club, despite its dissatisfaction, has not filed an official appeal, opposition is now growing among supporters. This Tuesday, 34 fan associations of RCL decided to take the matter to the Comité National Olympique et Sportif Français (CNOSF) to challenge the postponement.

Supporters denounce a breach of sporting fairness

In their statement, the associations argue that the decision was imposed without the consent of RC Lens and undermines sporting fairness at this crucial stage of the season. They specifically criticize what they consider an abusive application of Article 411 of the LFP competition regulations.

The supporters also condemn a decision driven by European interests, accusing the league of prioritizing the UEFA coefficient and PSG’s continental campaign over the integrity of the domestic championship. Their objective is clear: to have the postponement canceled and the original schedule reinstated.

“This postponement was imposed on RC Lens without its consent, creating a direct prejudice to sporting fairness at the end of our championship. Our challenge is based on a clearly abusive application of Article 411 of the LFP competition regulations. (…) Preserving the UEFA coefficient has long been a political and strategic objective of the league (…) It is inconceivable that the integrity of RC Lens’ season finale should serve as an adjustment variable for Paris Saint-Germain’s European ambitions,” the statement reads. The case is now in the hands of the CNOSF, which will have to rule on this sensitive dispute—an issue likely to generate further debate in the coming weeks.
