Real Madrid have been dealt a major blow. Substituted at halftime against Manchester City in the Champions League, Thibaut Courtois will be sidelined for several weeks. The Belgian goalkeeper is suffering from a muscle injury to his right thigh.
In an official statement released this Thursday, the Madrid club confirmed the diagnosis. “Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid medical team, our player Thibaut Courtois has been diagnosed with an injury to the anterior muscle of the right quadriceps. His condition will be closely monitored,” stated the club.
Six-Week Absence at a Crucial Stage
According to Spanish media, his unavailability is expected to last at least six weeks. A tricky timing for Real Madrid as key European fixtures approach.
Barring any surprises, Andriy Lunin is set to take over in goal for the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich. A significant absence for Los Blancos ahead of this highly anticipated clash.
