Real Madrid did attempt to bring back Zinedine Zidane this season, even if only for a short-term spell. However, “Zizou” politely declined the troubled situation in Madrid.
It’s a rejection that has made waves. According to Diario AS, Zidane reportedly turned down an approach from Real Madrid in recent months. The Spanish club is said to have contacted the French coach as early as December, during a turbulent period marked by the sidelining of Xabi Alonso. Despite the opportunity for a third stint on the Madrid bench, Zidane chose not to pursue the offer.
Zidane Focused on the French National Team
Still according to AS, this decision is driven by a clear objective: taking charge of the France national team after the 2026 World Cup. Although nothing has been officially confirmed, a preliminary agreement with the French Football Federation is reportedly already in place.
As a result, Real Madrid will have to explore other options, while Zidane continues to prepare for his future, with Les Bleus firmly in his sights.
