A major scare unfolded during the international friendly between Hungary and Kazakhstan when a camera suspended above the field suddenly detached and crashed onto the pitch at the stadium in Debrecen.
The match could have turned into a tragedy. The spider cam system reportedly failed during the first half. According to Hungarian media, a fire may have damaged the cable supporting the equipment. Moments later, the camera plunged from a height of more than 20 meters before smashing down near the touchline.
Terrifying Incident Stuns Players and Staff
The accident could have had serious consequences. The camera landed only a few meters away from a cameraman working on the sidelines. Fortunately, nobody was injured despite the dramatic scene.
The game was halted in the 26th minute while officials secured the area and removed the fallen equipment. Players took advantage of the unexpected stoppage to cool down and rehydrate before play resumed.
