Switzerland is unlikely to get bored during the 2026 World Cup. Based in San Diego to prepare for the tournament, the Swiss national team has discovered a rather unsettling neighborhood, with venomous snakes roaming around its training camp.
The players will need to be extremely careful. On Instagram, the Swiss federation shared a map of its facilities. One striking detail stood out: all the vegetation behind the training fields was marked in red, accompanied by a clear warning reading, “Beware of snakes.”
Snake Warning Around Switzerland’s Base Camp
The threat appears to be very real. A warning sign has been installed in the nearby Carmel Valley area, where several hikers have reportedly been bitten by snakes in recent months, according to American media reports.
The Swiss players have therefore been put on alert. Retrieving a ball lost in the bushes may not be worth the risk, as a simple trip beyond the sidelines could quickly lead to an unpleasant encounter.

As Switzerland continues its preparations for the World Cup, avoiding injuries may now involve more than just staying fit on the pitch. Keeping a safe distance from the surrounding wildlife has become part of the team’s daily routine.
